Tip Jar

In 2007 a study conducted by the Centro Internacional para la Agricultura Tropical came to the shocking conclusion that “even producers who receive fair trade premiums suffer a period of food insecurity ranging from one to seven months of the year — every year.”

Food 4 Farmers, formed in 2010 by a group of specialty coffee professionals and international aid organizations, is trying to change that.

Take their recent project in Colombia with Nuevo Futuro — a small association of 200 Colombian coffee farmers, many of whom are indigenous. In concert with Nuevo Futuro and the Corporación Nueva Ruralidad, Food 4 Farmers helped this community create a food security program that works for them by emphasizing ownership, education, and crop diversification, among other strategies.
